Conservatives and progressives join forces in San Diego to fight corruption.

Represent San Diego hosts coalition meet-and-greet to discuss joint efforts for local anti-corruption reform.

SAN DIEGO, CA – Next week, San Diego residents will gather at 2pm at Mira Mesa Library for an Anti-Corruption Mixer hosted by Represent San Diego. Represent San Diego is organizing to fight corruption by passing laws that stop political bribery, end secret money and fix our broken elections. The Anti-Corruption Mixer will bring together the leading efforts for pro-democracy reform in San Diego to discuss ways to work together, and engage the public. Confirmed organizations include Represent San Diego’s efforts, the California Clean Money Campaign, and a San Diego Clean Elections initiative. The event is open to anyone interested in learning how to fight corruption in San Diego; RSVP by Thursday, May 3 to sandiego@local.represent.us or through Eventbrite, as space is limited. Lunch will be provided.

Corruption is a threat in California. California received a C- grade in an independent corruption risk assessment, conducted by The Center for Public Integrity.

“We’re putting aside partisan differences and working together to protect our communities from corruption and build momentum for national reform,” said Emily Knight, Represent San Diego Chapter Leader. “We need to fix our broken political system and we know Congress won’t do it for us: we have to fight corruption ourselves.”

Represent San Diego is the local chapter of Represent.Us, the nation’s largest grassroots anti-corruption campaign. Represent.Us brings together conservatives, progressives and everyone in between to pass anti-corruption laws in cities and states around the country. Represent.Us has over 50 chapters, over half a million members, and volunteers in every state.

“Local, grassroots organizing is how we win the fight against corruption,” said Represent.Us Executive Director, Josh Silver. “Together, we are building a movement from the ground up and fighting for a future where political outcomes are dictated by the best ideas, not the biggest bank accounts.”
